Approximately 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Police state they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then located numerous other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police say early analysis show the substance was probably human blood.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; investigators are presently not informed of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the residents for details.
A senior official stated the incident rendered him speechless and required to be solved quickly.
"This event hits the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he wrote on social media, referring to the murder of nine people by a assailant focusing on residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
