Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Lift Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now secured the prestigious trophy on fourteen different times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past Marseille in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the showdown featuring the French league champions and the French Cup winners after the French winger found the scoring early on.

Yet, the southern French side struck two times late to take a surprise advantage. Initially, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial leveler in the final seconds to force the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all converted with composure for PSG to complete a convincing shootout victory.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the past 13 years.
